The Advantages of the Evaporative Air Conditioning

Air conditioning plays an integral role in today’s world, especially when the effect of global warming is spreading so fast. But the electricity bills are becoming unaffordable for most people. So, there’s another technique to manage this and yet have the comforts of air conditioners.

Advantages of evaporative cooling

The evaporative cooling technologies provide enough cooling comforts, and you would not have to worry about the electricity bills. They also help to manage the environmental impacts. Air conditioning enhances the global warming effects in the atmosphere. But with these evaporative cooling technologies, this is not a problem anymore. They help reduce the global warming impacts, lowering the power consumption alongside. These echnologies involve a transfer process of heat and mass that uses water evaporation to cool air. In this process, a huge amount of heat is transferred from the air to the water. This also ensures the temperature of the air getting decreased.

Types of evaporative coolers

There are generally three categories of evaporative air coolers. The first one is direct coolers, followed by coolers that are indirect. The third category is a mixture of the above two coolers mentioned above; it is a combined direct and indirect cooler technique. In direct coolers, the working fluids that are the air and the water, are in direct contact with each other, while in the indirect coolers, the working fluids that are the air and the water are separated by a plate or a surface. The direct technique of cooling is known as the most ordinary and easy way of cooling. It uses the technique of cooling the air by converting the heat sensed by air to latent heat.

Direct cooling can be further classified into active direct cooling and passive direct cooling. The basic principle of indirect cooling is decreasing the heat sensed by air without changing the humidity. This gives it a clear advantage over direct cooling. A basic indirect evaporative cooler will consist of an exchanger of heat, a small fan, distribution lines of water, and a water pump with the tank.

The indirect cooling can be further classified into wet-bulb temperature indirect cooling systems and sub-wet-bulb temperature indirect cooling systems. The wet-bulb temperature indirect cooling consists of a packaged unit of the flat-plate stack, cross-flow exchanger of heat. Indirect cooling is made to overcome the disadvantages and downsides of the direct evaporative cooling systems.

Effectiveness of evaporative cooling

Using evaporative cooling systems is one of the most environmentally friendly options in today’s world. The technique of using water for evaporation to decrease the temperature of the air is one of the most efficient ways of cooling. In comparison, it gets clear that the indirect cooling systems are ranked a little higher than the direct cooling systems in terms of economy as the former is more economical than the latter and consumption of energy as the former uses less amount of energy than the latter. However, another effective option is to mix the best parts from the direct cooling systems and indirect cooling systems and create a whole new system altogether, which is known as the combined direct-indirect evaporative cooling system.
